SPADS Airplanes are built very differently that standard Balsa planes., The construction techniqes are cutting edge and very unusual. The main component is called "coroplast" and the secondary main component is PVC raingutter downspout. Most of a spad comes from a hardware store. Most Spads can be built in just a few evenings. The planes are also very durable and can take a beating. Im sure you have seen Spads at the field because there are a a few spad flyers there.. Building Spads isnt really that hard. It does require alot different tools than a balsa plane. Coro is glued by flashing it then using med CA, GOOP and or poly-urethane glue. Its mainly a mater of cutting, scoreing and glueing the parts. Since the coro already has a finished surface, there isnt any monocoat required!. The fusaloge can be made out of the downspout, folded coro or just a piece of aluminum channel

Spads Over The West Coast
Spads over the West Coast is the first Spad gathering on the west coast. It will be like the great SPADFESTS that are held in the midwest. The event will be held in McMinnville Oregon ,July 25 and 26,, 2009. It will be at the Evergreen Modelers Club, were the spruce goose is housed. It will be a great wekend of SPADS, SPADS and more SPADS. we will have SPAD flying, SPAD combat, SPAD contests SPAD building and just plain SPAD fun. The theme is "Gathering of the Stiks" We are asking that everybody bring a stik, any size and shape or configuration is welcomed. There will be awards for the best looking SPAD and most creative SPAD. Please plan on attending this first time event. you wont be disapointed
